🪹 Drought - What do you do to help with Writer’s Block?
Ive tried different tricks over the years, but Ive found that the two most effective ones are to play video games and watch content that I don’t normally watch. Often when I play games, as I am running around, I will mull over any creative blocks that i might have and I often have an answer just pop up.
🌙 Eclipse - What’s the most common / reoccurring theme of your WIP(s)?
I don’t have many these days, but one that I work with a lot is theme of dealing with hidden thoughts and desires. I love getting the chance to work with characters who’s feelings for each other are just below the surface and they just cant bloody spit it out, until circumstance forces them to.
For this, we are gonna take a look at a scene from “Whisked Away”
Soon came time for the toasts. Those were quickly given and soon it was time for the first dance. Most of the crowd, including you got up from your tables and went to watch the happy couple sway about to a sweet love song.
After they finished, everyone applauded. The DJ cued up a classic love song, “I only have eyes for you.” By The Flamingos. Several other couples took to the dance floor.
Taking that as your cue, you turned to walk back to your table, hoping to get some more wine. But back at your table was more than wine.
Standing near your seat, holding his hand out to you, was none other than Doctor Strange.
“May I have this dance?”
For a moment you wondered if you were dreaming. You wonder if maybe there had been something in the wine. Surely you were Imaging this. There was only one way to be sure.
Wordlessly you nodded yes and reached out to him. Strange quickly took your hand in his and led you to the dance floor. With each step your heart pounded. You hoped you wouldn’t faint before you got there.
Once on the dance floor, Doctor Strange quickly twirled you around before bringing you into his arms, his right hand placed respectfully on the small of your back. He brought you close enough that you could pick up more of his cologne. You couldn’t tell what it was but you ventured a guess that it was expensive.
Sensing you were nervous,Doctor Strange spoke first, politely inquiring as to where your ex was. Not wanting to explain it all for the 50th time that day, you kept it short, explaining that you had broken up a few weeks back and that things just hadn’t worked out.
For a moment you expected him to gloat, but to your surprise he didn’t, instead he offered a gentle apology, telling you that you were much better off.
I wanted to highlight this particular scene because of the song choice. The song “I Only Have Eyes for You” actually inspired this whole story. I had been re-watching season 2 of “The Crown” and this song is used in a scene in which a character realizes they have fallen for another. It also made me think of DSMOM in which Stephen goes to Christine’s wedding, looking so damn good in a suit that it should be classified as a crime that I felt that Stephen should get the chance to go to another wedding and have things go his way this time.

I wonder if the strike will affect their decision to stay though becuase if that’s the case, they might just walk right off and we will be seeing indefinite delays. Not to mention I’m wierded out by the timing of this announcement considering that Evie Fry’s VA went on strike. I seriously hope these two aren’t being used as scabs.

Fr, I’m just grossed out as hell by the timing of all of this. It seems so utterly convenient of Abster- I mean Ubisoft to suddenly announce they’re finally gonna bring back Connor and Ezio after how long? Miss me with that shit cause it’s not like I was born last Thursday. And this after so much radio silence on what they were gonna do with the OG characters too. And don’t think for a second I haven’t noticed that they’re using Noah Watts as a potential scabber, and he’s likely underemployed if not unemployed. Ugh this makes me so fucking sick.

I just want to note that Ubisoft did not replace Victoria Atkin with AI (which seems to be the narrative going around, from everything I’ve seen). A random modder used AI to recreate Evie Frye’s voice for a Skyrim mod, which Ubisoft is working to remove. I’m not defending Ubisoft, but I feel it’s important to know what the AI thing was actually about since the tweet was worded so vaguely (unintentionally, I assume). This highlights what AI is capable of, and it’s scary, but big companies aren’t using it to this degree YET.
Also, the strike is not targeting commercial or voiceover work, which includes video games (though whether it should is another story). Actors are still allowed to work on these projects and promote them, since they’re under different contracts than the ones SAG is concerned with. So no, Noah Watts would not be scabbing if he does any future work with Ubisoft. Even if the strike did apply to VAs, the lines for Nexus VR were probably recorded well before the strike began. Voice work happens at the very beginning of production and this game is clearly at the end.
And this is just my personal opinion, but despite how greasy Ubisoft is I don’t believe they’re pulling anything super shady with this VR thing. I think it’s just a low-risk venture so they can have something on the market, and they might also be trying to gauge if older characters are still profitable and worth developing into bigger projects in the future.
Companies don’t read these posts, they read numbers. They’re not going to pour millions into a full-fledged sequel project with any of the Assassins if the first attempt didn’t do well, so I’d rather promote this janky Nexus thing than Mirage.
To get back to the strike, I’m not saying it’s okay for the video game industry to be operating the way it is, or that people working in the industry aren’t at risk. (SAG did hold a specific strike for video game actors in 2016). I just want to make sure this post contains what’s actually going on and not just people throwing around the word ‘scab’. If my sources were incorrect or I unintentionally misrepresented any info please let me know.
Plus as I understand it with the strike, if this is from a contract signed before the strike, according to SAG, it’s okay to carry it out. They just don’t want people signing new contracts for the time being.
I think as fanfic writers there’s a general tendency to get too caught up in word count when in reality something can be said better in 500 words rather than 3,000. Fanfiction isn’t an essay for school, you don’t need to hit a word count. of course add stuff if you need to and if it feels right but don’t force your self to continue in order to hit the word count if it feels complete
i saw a quote that said “i feel like i’m constantly worrying about the next part of my life without realizing that i’m right in the middle of what i used to look forward to.” and i felt that.
After yesterday, I am forced to confront the fact that I cant wear certain shoes anymore. My joints have reached a point to where wearing wedged sandals for too long means I will end up needing pain meds the next day.
